1. Community Coordinator
Type: Full-time contract, 35 hrs/week at $19/hour + EI/CPP employer contributions + 4% Ontario Vacation pay, ending February 19th, 2021.
Start Date: ASAP, ending February 19, 2021
Location: St. James Town, Toronto (Work from home with in-person community work)

Overview: The St. James Town Cooperative is a community-based, democratically owned Co-op in St. James Town that focuses on sustainable development in the neighbourhood, with particular interest in food security. The Co-op was recently awarded a project grant from the Canadian Red Cross, and is looking to hire an individual to lead the outreach and community engagement arm of the project. The project goal is to supply healthy and affordable food – as well as food-based educational resources – to St James Town residents to enhance the food security and pandemic emergency preparedness in the neighbourhood, which has been disproportionately impacted by the effects of COVID-19. The Community Coordinator will be tasked with identifying priority families and food-needs, and coordinating food distribution days to deliver food to families. They will be required to engage their creativity in connecting with community partners, building on the Co-op’s existing relationships, and forging new ones. 
This full-time position will report to the Project Manager and will be supported by member-owners of the Co-op, as well as two part-time staff. 
Responsibilities: 
  • Work with team to develop and solidify project strategy, priorities, and timeline;
  • Create and build-on existing relationships with partner organizations, community leaders, St. James Town residents, and other community stakeholders to facilitate food delivery program;
  • Conduct online and in-person communications to engage with partners for food delivery, including, identifying priority parties as well as specific and culturally-appropriate food needs; 
  • Identify new volunteers for food distribution and delivery, and coordinate with current volunteers; 
  • Work with team of staff and volunteers to plan and carry-out pandemic-safe food distribution days;
  • Support team to deliver food-based educational events;
  • Collect, document and keep track of participant information in accordance with the privacy act;
  • Other responsibilities as needed. 
Qualifications: 
  • You are a people’s person that has excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively engage people and organizations; 
  • Experience with food-security projects and/or working with vulnerable populations;
  • Strong organization skills and ability to work independently and with a team; 
  • Ability to work remotely as well as in-person in St James Town as required;
  • Passion for food security and/or community health;
  • Strong pre-existing community network in St James Town, an asset; 
  • Training or experience with principles of inclusion, equity, and justice, an asset; 
  • A nutrition background is an asset; 
  • Fundraising experience is an asset; 
  • Fluency in multiple languages is an asset.

2. Marketing/Fundraising Coordinator
Type: Part-time contract, 17.5 hrs/week at $19/hour + EI/CPP employer contributions + 4% Ontario Vacation pay, ending February 19th, 2021.
Start Date: ASAP, ending February 19, 2021
Location: St. James Town, Toronto (Work from home with in-person community work)

Overview: 
The St. James Town Cooperative is a community-based, democratically owned Co-op in St. James Town that focuses on sustainable development in the neighbourhood, with particular interest in food security. The Co-op was recently awarded a COVID-19 response project grant from the Canadian Red Cross. The project goal is to supply healthy and affordable food, as well as food-based educational resources to enhance the food security and pandemic emergency preparedness in the St James Town community, which has been disproportionately impacted by the effects of COVID-19. The Co-op is looking to hire a part-time marketing and fundraising coordinator to working closely with the Community Coordinator to get the word out about this project, as well as locate further financial resources to maximize the project’s impact and longevity. 
This part-time position will report to the Project Manager and Community Coordinator and will be supported by member-owners of the Co-op, as well as two part-time staff. 
Responsibilities: 
  • Work with team to develop and solidify project strategy, priorities, and timeline;
  • Develop and implement marketing strategy, working closely with the Community Coordinator; 
  • Use digital platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and MailChimp, as well as print materials and word-of-mouth to creatively promote programs;
  • Develop relationships with organizations, businesses, as well as individuals in neighbouring areas for fundraising opportunities to enhance the project’s reach. This includes cold-calling, utilizing networks, and building on existing partner relationships;
  • Support team with other project-related needs. 
Qualifications: 
  • Strong understanding of online engagement and marketing tools, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, MailChimp, and HooteSuite;
  • Fundraising experience, or willingness to learn; 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; 
  • A creative approach to problem-solving; 
  • Organization skills and the ability to work both independently and with a team;  
  • Experience working with food-security projects and/or vulnerable populations;
  • Experience with photography, videography and video editing, as well as graphic design platforms such as Canva;
  • Ability to work remotely as well as in-person in St James Town as required; 
  • Training or experience with principles of inclusion, equity, and justice, an asset; 
  • Strong ties to St James Town an asset; 
  • Understanding of principles of food security as asset; 
  • Fluency in multiple languages an asset.
