Lacto-fermentation Workshop (pickles/onions)

Have you ever wondered how sauerkraut, pickles, or kimchi are made?

Learn the basics of lacto-fermention at our online workshop! Join Co-op member Hali Crawford to learn how to make your very own fermented cucumbers and onions.

Lacto-fermentation is a great way to preserve vegetables and add new flavours to vegetables. This is an interactive workshop, so you will need to bring some items, below.

What you will need: 

Option 1: A kit from the St. James Town Community Co-op (limited supplies), plus a cucumber and/or onion (which will be supplied in emergency food boxes if you receive one)

Option 2: the following items: 

  • A jar with a lid
  • Non-iodized salt
  • Cucumber or onion
  • Black paper for flavour (optional)
  • Herbs for flavour such as dill (optional)
  • A scale (optional)
