Find translated versions of our COVID-19 policy at the bottom of this page.

It is our utmost priority to keep one another, our volunteers, and members of the St James Town community safe throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We ask that staff, members, and volunteers respect the following public health guidelines and take note of recommended strategies for added protection:

  • Keep a physical distance of 6ft (2m) apart from others whenever possible
  • Wear a facemask anytime you are indoors in a shared space during work hours
  • Wear a facemask when outdoors and physical distance of 6ft is not possible
  • Maintain consistent hand washing or sanitization if/when handling food or other items touched by multiple people
  • Monitor your health and update project staff or volunteer coordinator if you are feeling unwell
  • Update project staff or volunteer coordinator if you have come into close contact, within 2-weeks, of a person who has since tested positive for COVID-19
  • Inform the project staff or volunteer coordinator if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe due to the actions of another staff member or volunteer in the conduct of their project activities
  • Review and update policies as they continue to change based on Public Health guidelines

Recommended/Advised:

Wash sink taps before and after handwashing – frequent face washing is also recommended

Nasal irrigation – in several countries flushing nose and sinuses with salt water (and baking soda) has been effective. Kits can be found in pharmacies, or one can use Neti pots to rinse nasal passages through the nose and out of the mouth into the sink or toilet – sanitize the area when done

Recommended before attending and when returning home from project activities involving contact with the public or co-op personnel

Spray items being shared or handed out with Hydrogen peroxide/water solution

Rotate reusable face masks after use, wash in hot water with HP

Fortify your immune system and strengthen resistance to contagion:

Especially for melanated/ darker skinned people please take extra vitamin D daily – is important for general health all fall winter and spring, when sunlight is scarce, and is known to mitigate COVID various sources suggest 2-3000 Ius per day.

High doses of Vitamin C – using supplements and citrus /High C foods

Some cultures use Ginger lemon tea to help guard against flu and covid, biol ginger slices at least 5 minutes and add lemon or lime.

Lime or lemon water in the morning to cleanse mucus and help balance blood

Breathing exercises, including yoga and meditation, are helpful to keep lungs fit and resilient. Stay as fit as you can – walking, dancing, exercise routines.

People who cannot wear masks are asked to maintain distance and be extra vigilant in containing bodily fluids as well as hand/face hygiene and cover their nose and mouth when sneezing, coughing, yawning etc.

If you have any concerns regarding this policy, please inform the Project Manager or volunteer coordinator.
