Classic spaghetti bolognese from Instagram user and St. James Town Resident @herrvdb
What you need:
- 1lb ground beef
- 1 medium diced white onion
- 4 gloves of garlic (smashed or minced)
- 1 28oz can of san Marzano tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 to 1 tsp dried red chili flakes
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 sprig fresh basil1/2 tsp white sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Recipe step-by-step:
1.) In a large pot in medium high brown ground beef until deeply caramelized. Remove to a bowl, don’t discard any beef fat.
2.) Add diced onion to same pot with pinch of salt. Cook until translucent.
3.) Add minced garlic and chili flakes. Cook until fragrant.
4.) Add tomato paste and cook for 3-4 minutes or until slightly deepened in colour.
5.) Add whole can of san marzano tomatoes and 1/2 cup of water. Break part tomatoes with wooden spoon or potato masher (for a smoother sauce blend or food processor tomatoes).
6.) Add back the ground beef and add dried oregano and fresh basil. Bring to a simmer.
7.) Once simmering reduce heat to medium/medium low and maintain simmer uncovered for 2-3 hours stirring often. If sauce looks too thick add a little more water.
8.) Season with salt and pepper and serve with you noodles of choice.
