Board Members

The Co-op is driven by the help of a community of Board Members, who are St. James Town residents, community advocates and organizers, and people invested in making St. James Town a stronger, healthier, more resilient community.

Josephine Grey Co-Founder

Josephine Grey has been a human rights advocate, community organizer and public speaker for more than 30 years. She has co-founded many organizations, including Low Income Families Together (LIFT), Center for Social Justice, The Income Security Advocacy Centre, and the St. James Town Community Co-operative. Josephine is the project-lead for the OASIS Food Hub.

Darryl D'Souza Board Member

Darryl is a Lecturer at Centennial College and Communications Consultant and with 20 years of experience in Non-Profit Communications. He has a Ph.D. in Communications and worked in several local and global non-profit organizations.

Erica May Farazi Board Member

Erica May is the Program Coordinator at the Coop and grew up in the St. James Town neighbourhood. She is an avid learner with a wide variety of interests including cooking, plants, logic puzzles, and film photography. She has two delightful small dogs who are best friends.

Petra Hanzlik Board Member

Petra has presently immersed herself in sustainable Urban & rural agriculture & farming practices, permaculture principled food forest gardening and learning everything about how to grow the healthiest soil & food to feed our communities. She has been bringing her passion, insights and experience to the St Jamestown community for over 10 years. Petra is on the board of Directors at LIFT and is a volunteer with several groups in the GTA.

Azikee Huie Board Member

Azikee is an Afro Jamaican immigrant, a Community Organizer, a climate change advocate, and a volunteer to various Toronto organizations. She is a Parent Ambassador for racialized parents and students and a recently elected board member to The St James Town Co-op. Azikee is also the volunteer coordinator for the Co-op’s Emergency Food Program.

Vicky Lu Board Member

Vicky is an active member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management who works in the hospitality field. She is also an animal lover.

Staff

The Co-op is blessed to have a wonderful staff team full of diverse interests, knowledge, and skills. Together, they make a strong team of advocates and organizers to make the Co-op’s dream a reality.

Yasmine El Hamamsy Food and Engagement Coordinator

Yasmine is the Food and Engagement Manager with the St. James Town Community Co-op. Whether she is coordinating the community garden, a farm trip, or building a new connection between the co-op and its local farmer-suppliers, her work with the co-op allows her to nurture the community-led food systems that she believes are necessary for a ecologically sustainable and just future.

Be a part of a growing network for community empowerment and mutual benefit.

Memberships with the St James Town Community Co-op are active for one year. Each subsequent year, to remain a member in good standing, you must reapply and pay your annual dues.
